Masterclasses

Alison regularly gives masterclasses, often for singing teacher colleagues in schools and by private arrangement. She is committed to helping inspire singers of all ages to achieve greater self confidence and enjoyment of performing. To this end, she likes to incorporate the audience as much as possible when working with a solo singer, in order to help fire the imagination and create a fully rounded performance.

Director of Music

For several years Alison was Director of ‘Music at Rendcomb’, a residential singing course that culminated in a concert of staged scenes. This course was re-instated in August 2012 as part of the International Summer School of Music in Shrewsbury – Singing for Stage Performance. She has also tutored at Hereford International Summer School and Benslow Music Trust.

Choral Workshops

Alison has been a choral workshop tutor for Making Music South West for many years, and has worked with many choirs in the region, as well as presenting a workshop with the BBC Symphony Chorus. Sessions can range from three hours to a full day. Alison initially works on vocal techniques including breathing, articulation, range, projection and dynamics, and then incorporates these elements into the repertoire that the choir is currently preparing. Working alongside the conductor, she is also happy to pinpoint and input into particular technical challenges that present themselves during a choral rehearsal.

"The course provided a nurturing, supportive and positive atmosphere in which I found the freedom to sing without inhibitions or the fear of being judged by others. I have never had such a wonderful experience – a truly inspirational week!"
